Geezer Meister Tournament on 1/14/2011
We "the Pickleball players from Highland Lakes" are proud of our three Pickleball players from Highland Lakes and one Pickleball player from Legacy who entered the Geezer Meister Tournament at Spruce Creek. Lynn Corbett & Susan Clark were partners in this event that took place at 8:30 this morning. They were very brave to play outdoors this morning in this cold weather. Bill Guenst & Dave Wenzel were partners in the 1:00 event. Even though they did not win any prizes it was a good experience for all of them and we give them credit for trying something different
Way to go, guys!

Our Annual Pickleball Pizza Party
Thank You everyone for making our Annual Pickleball Pizza Party such a big success. We had a great group of people who came to enjoy Pizza, salad and so many desserts. Thanks to all who brought the salads and desserts. They also came to play Pickleball and enjoy each others company. There were four nets going and a line of people waiting to get on the courts as you can tell by the pictures.
Everyone seemed to be in the holiday spirit with their Santa hats and Christmas socks. Bob Cuenin even had his Buffalo Bill socks on tonight. It was a fun evening.
Pickleball, Pickleball, Pickleball Rock
Pickle balls ping and Pickle balls ring
Bouncing and volleying up barrels of fun
Now the Pickle hop has begun.
Pickleball, Pickleball, Pickleball rock
Pickle balls ping at Pickleball time
Dinking and lobbing in Pickleball courts
What a good time, it's the right time
To play the day away
Pickleball time is a swell time
To go sliding on a Pickleball day
Giddy-up Pickleball partner, pick up your feet
Pickle around the clock
Mix and a-mingle on the Pickleball court
That's the Pickleball,
That's the Pickelball,
That's the Pickleball Rock.

Monday Night Pickleball
Tonight we had three new players who wanted to learn how to play Pickleball. Al & Maria are new homeowners here at Highland Lakes. Joe is new to Pickleball and wants to learn how to play the game. They did very well considering this was their first time playing. We even played a couple of games with the help of Dave Wenzel and Dena Randall. Thank You guys for helping out with the new players.

Sunday Afternoon Pickleball
This was the largest crowd we've had on a Sunday afternoon for quite some time. At one point we had a total of 18 players. We had a few snowbirds return this week. Welcome Back to Ron Eversole and Dave & Judy Wenzel. The snowbirds have not lost their touch for playing Pickleball even though they have been away for awhile. They had some great games and were having fun playing Pickleball.
Irene Blenis was back from her visit up North. Welcome back, Irene.

Pickleball Clinic
Information for all our Pickleball players,
About a month ago we had a special request of 4 people from 3 different communities asking if they could practice on one of our indoor courts on Sunday afternoons for three weeks.
The reason being is that they were practicing for the Tour State Senior Games which will be held at Ft. Myers on December 4-5. This tournament is being held indoors and neither one of them was accustomed to playing Pickleball indoors. They all have outdoor courts in their communities. They are Jim Spurlock of Plantation, Jack Trafalski & Brenda Littlefield of Citrus Hill and Sheryl Greiner of the Villages. In return for our hospitality Brenda Littlefield is providing us with a free Pickleball clinic for our Pickleball players at Highland Lakes.
This clinic will be held Sunday afternoon on January 30, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Write it on your calendar and come down to the arena and have some fun.
I will be sending out a reminder as the time gets closer.
Thank You

Pickleball on Halloween October 31st and Voting Day November 2nd.
Sorry, the Blog has not been updated lately but I have been up North for a month visiting family but I am back now and I will try to keep it updated as much as I can. A Thank You to Lynn Corbett for updating the Blog with pictures of our Pickleball group who were hosting the Saturday morning breakfast on October 9, 2010. I'd like to Thank everyone who helped serve the breakfast and made this event a huge success. As you can see Karen Orman is back wearing her Halloween ears. Welcome back to Karen Orman, Gerry Crowell and Dena Randall. Glad to have you back. We are getting lots of snow birds back for the winter months but not all of them have been back to playing Pickleball. We are looking forward to there return. We miss them all when they leave for the summer months. The Arena was being used for Voting on November 2nd so we took our Pickleball game to the outdoor courts. It is different playing outdoors but we still had a wonderful time and the weather was good. Kathy Carter was out there playing Pickleball with her son.

Saturday Pickleball Breakfast October 9, 2010
There was a good turnout for the Saturday breakfast that was sponsored by the Highland Lakes pickleball group. There was also a good turnout in pickleball players to work the breakfast. The pickleball players that were present to help out were Bill, Cathy, Mike, Beverly, Dean, John, Bebina, Nancy, Dorothy, Irene, Maureen, Renee, Janet, Susan, Marvin, Ken and Lynn. And Manny was scrambling the eggs. They were the best! John and Dean were the pot washers and they did an excellent job with no complaints. Please let me know if I left anyone out.
I took a few photos and they are below.

Pickleball Monday Night Sept. 27, 2010
This was our last Monday night for intercommunity pickleball playing. There happened to be a bad thunderstorm that caused some of the Hawthorne players to come over and also the crew from Water Oak came down. We had some really competitive games going on. We only had 3 courts for pickleball as the photographers were back to take photos of the HL residents for the new book coming out next year. That took up our 4th court but it didn't stop the enthusiasm though. No one seemed to mind sitting out on the bench a little longer between games. Actually we all had a nice social time too that way. The intercommunity playing will end after the Thursday morning session. We sure have enjoyed it and the players from the other communities have really helped us out. The other communities that have participated are Legacy, Hawthorne, Water Oak, Pembroke, and Arlington Ridge. We look forward to next summer when we can all get together again. Lynn

Monday night Inter-Community play September 20, 2010
We were very glad to have Rich and Donna Donald join us here at Highland Lakes for some fun Pickleball games. They are currently staying at the Villages until the end of September. Rich and Donna are Ambassadors to the USAPA. Water Oaks and Legacy joined us as part of our Inter-Community play. Four courts were going at full speed tonight. Thanks to all who participated in our Inter-Community play. It's always a pleasure to have you join us in some fun games. Marvin & Susan McGinnis grandson Drew is here and ready to play Pickleball. He was on the courts tonight and mingled in with all the other Pickleball players. We are glad to have you back Drew and hope your able to come and play some Pickleball games with us. Pictures are posted on the blog of Drew McGinnis. He just turned 10 years old and has been playing Pickleball for 2 1/2 years. He plays about twice a year when he comes to visit his grandparents here at Highland Lakes.
