Pickleball Pizza Party 12-5-2011

Our traditional Pickleball Pizza Party was a great success. We had lots of Pizza to eat and a wonderful assortment of salads, crackers, fruit, and lots of desserts. Thanks to all who brought in a dish to share with everyone.  There were also some great Pickleball games being played as you can see by the pictures below.  We were happy to have our new players join us this year at the Pizza Party.  They were Rich and Carol Paul, Don Johnson who brought his wife to the party and Ken (he is so new that I don't have his last name yet).  Karen Orman kept up with her tradition of dressing for the holiday as you can see below in one of the pictures.  All in all everyone had a great time mingling  with their friends, chatting and laughing at this wonderful time of the year.  We would like to Thank all who donated to the Relay for Life Cancer Research.

Our committee wishes one and all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Pickleball is Hosting the Saturday Breakfast.

I would like to Thank all the Pickleball Players who came this morning to help serve at the Saturday Breakfast.  You guys did a wonderful job and there were many compliments on how friendly the Pickleball Players really are.  You made us proud!  Thank You!

Highland Lakes Pickleball Inter-Community Play

I can't believe that Inter-Community play is due to come to an end at the end of this month.  The committee has been asked to extend it into October, so a meeting is due to determine if this is a possibility.   We have had many communities involved this year. Plantation is our newest community to join us in our summer program.  Other communities returning from previous years are Legacy, Hawthorne, Water Oaks, and Pennbrooke.  We have enjoyed playing with all of the players from the different communities.  They are fun people, considerate and they give us a run for our money as far as Pickleball goes.  We are always faced with a challenge when playing anyone from these communities.  It's competitive, fun and good exercise.  Everyone seems to enjoy our indoor facilities and they are having a good time.  Below is a picture of the Pickleball players from the different communities that came out to play on a Tuesday morning August 30th.

As you can see by the pictures below we have three generations playing Pickleball in our arena on August 8 and 15, 2011.  Anita Pasiak and her daughter Holly and her granddaughter Bella are enjoying a night of fun as a family.  We enjoyed watching them play several games of Pickleball.  Bella who is 8 years old caught onto this game very quickly.

Highland Lakes Pickleball Inter-Community Play

This Blog has not been updated very often lately because I am (Marie) finally getting to play Pickleball instead of taking pictures.  Highland Lakes has started their Inter-Community play with other Communities on May 16, 2011.  This year our Inter-Community play consist of Hawthorne, Legacy, Water Oaks and Pennbrooke.  We are in the process of adding Plantation to our Inter-Community play.  Playing Pickleball with all these players from different Communities is fun and challenging and makes for good quality play. 

The picture above is Doug Benedict grandson of Ed & Carolyn Stein who are from Hawthorne.  Last year Doug came to visit his grandparents for a week and played Pickleball.  This year he's visiting for two weeks because he said one week of Pickleball was not enough for him.  He wants to get all the Pickleball play he can possibly get during his two weeks vacation.  He is a very good player and flies around that court and he rotates in just like everyone else.  Welcome Doug!

Dena Randall has learned to play Pickleball here at Highland Lakes and is a great fan of the sport.  Since she is a snowbird and wanted to continue playing Pickleball year round, she decided to start Pickleball in GA were she resides for the summer months.  Last summer Dena fell while playing Pickleball in GA and hurt her wrist but that didn't stop her because as soon as she was healed she was back on the courts playing her hardest.  She is an amazing person and we all love her here at Highland Lakes.  We are very proud of her and hope she has a wonderful summer and wish her good luck with her Pickleball training.

Three new players anxious to learn how to play Pickleball

Rich Paul, Carol Paul and Ginger Pierce are anxious to learn how to play Pickleball. They are our newest players and are doing very well. Rick (the last two pictures) is Rich & Carol's nephew from up North, this was his first time ever trying the game. He had never heard of Pickleball were he is from but he was doing very well and loved the game.

Happy Easter to all of our Family and Friends

Friday was a wonderful day to play Pickleball.  We had two grandchildren join us in some fun games during their school break.  There were four courts going throughout the morning.  On the last court was Jenney competing against her grandmother, "Marilyn Crowell".  Britt, "Manny & Marie's granddaughter" was competing against Maria Geize.  The girls were determined to beat the older folks and were very happy when they did.  Kathy was also visiting her parents , Bob & Ruth Fegers.  We also had a parade of Easter bonnets displayed by Karen Orman and Harry Yorgensen.  Karen, we can be assured will come in displaying all of her holiday attire on all the holidays of the year and Friday was no different.  She was wearing her "Pink Easter Bonnet" with lots of spring flowers on it.  She changed to her "Bunny Ears" while she was playing Pickleball.   We never know what she will be wearing for any particular holiday, she is always full of surprises.

Highland Lakes Pickleball Outing

These are pictures of our Pickleball outing which was held at the picnic area yesterday, April 14, 2011.  As we do every year, after the Pickleball Championship the players get together to have fun at the Pickleball Outing.  This year wasn't any different, we had a great crowd, enjoyed lots of different dishes that everybody brought, and so many delicious desserts.  The weather couldn't have been any better for our outing.  Thanks to everyone who brought food or drinks as well as games to the picnic.  It was very much appreciated by one and all.  The winners of the Pickleball Championship players enjoyed receiving their awards and everyone had a great time.  Thanks to all the people who participated and helped to make this an enjoyable day.  Good friends, good times, that's what it's all about.
